That awkward moment when you drop the term “slut-shaming” in mixed company

…and the entire conversation comes to a halt and everyone turns to look at you like, “What did she just say?” And then people say that anyone who says that about the movie/cultural figure you’re referencing “must have been watching a different movie.” And you try to say that that director has actively shamed women for having sexual needs in many of his past films, and people brush it off as “addressing legitimate issues that plague the Black community.” And you start to wonder why you try to hard to find groups of Black people to spend time with. And you start to question how “conscious” the people in the “Conscious Blacks in the DMV” Meetup group actually are.
