and I wanna answer it.
What does love mean to you?
I’ve been learning my own answer to this question more and more intimately of late, though I think that the majority of my definition applies to non-romantic loving relationships as well.
To me, love is having somebody’s back. It’s wanting to be there for someone even when you’re not quite sure of the best way to do that. It’s doing things from a “we” and “our” perspective, be it adventuring or problem-solving. Love is prioritization. Love is goofy smiles and silly sounds and the desire to nestle. It’s when their laugh, smile, or touch feels like sunshine and fresh air and home. It is simultaneously seeking and providing shelter. Love is when doing the messy emotional work of maintaining each party’s happiness and healthiness in the relationship feels worth it. Love is wholly accepting someone where they are, but at the same time wanting to help them better themselves and their circumstances. Love is a nurtured growth.
