Day 29: Magic Words #30Layers30Days

What are your favorite words to refer to for faith, courage and inspiration?

There’s a reason this quote is permanently on my blog sidebar:

I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.

–Audre Lorde

When I am seeking faith, courage, or inspiration, 9 time out of 10 it’s on the road to communicating something, to putting myself out there. I have this quote permanently living on my homepage because that’s what this blog is about, and that’s what I try to be about everyday: speaking, verbalizing, and sharing that which is important to me, regardless of how people are going to take it. I call this quote “the philosophy of Afroholism,” because it puts my definition of authenticity into words that are hard to talk myself out of.

This blog is full of words that encourage and inspire me. Some quotes affect me deeply the moment I encounter them, as if some small slice of me has been waiting my whole life to find them. Some quotes immediately resonate. Others seem like they speak to someone I was in the past, or someone I could be in the future. Some say things I want to say to people who are important to me. Regardless of who and what point in time the quotes I reblog speak to, they guide me in myriad ways.
